🍴Alexander Hamilton
Remember this commercial?
Remember the original “Got Milk?” commercial?

You see an Alexander Hamilton super fan making himself a peanut butter sandwich.
He’s slathering on the peanut butter and listening to the radio.
You hear the newscaster say they’re going to randomly call someone for a chance to win $10,000 if they answer a question correctly.
The phone trills.
He picks up.
“Who shot Alexander Hamilton?”
With a mouthful of peanut butter sandwich, the guy says, “Aaron Burr.”
The announcer can’t understand him.
He keeps repeating Aaron Burr, but with a mouthful of peanut butter, his answer is muddled.
He desperately grabs the milk container, but nothing more than a few drops come out.
CLICK.
The phone line cuts out, and he misses his chance.
“Got Milk?”
This was an iconic ad and an excellent reminder for marketers that you can’t muddle your message.
Yes, it’s important to show your audience what life would be like with your product/service.
But, you also need to show them what life will be like WITHOUT your product/service.
The ad did a great job of that.
The absence of milk was the difference maker in whether the guy won $10,000 or not.
