Think about the last time you commented on someone’s post and never got so much as a thumbs-up.
You took a minute out of your day to engage with their content. You added something, whether it was a thought, opinion, or question, and they couldn’t take 30 seconds to acknowledge it.
It’s pretty frustrating, and if you’re being honest, it probably made you less likely to engage with their content again.
If someone comments on your post and you never respond, that's exactly how they feel about you.
This is one of the most common things I see on LinkedIn, and it's not just a rookie mistake.
Some of the platform's biggest profiles are notorious for doing this.
Comments pile up, and they never show up, and everyone who took the time to engage moves on.
Responding to comments is about more than proper LinkedIn etiquette; it’s one of the easiest ways to extend the life of your post.
Every response you leave is a new interaction, which signals to LinkedIn that people are paying attention, keeping your post in the feed longer and in front of more of the right people.
So you're leaving two things on the table when you don't respond: the relationship and the reach.

Here's what I do and what I tell my clients to do.
In the first hour after publishing, I try my best to be available to check in. If comments come in early, I respond. That first window matters more than most people realize. That’s the “Golden Hour.”
Then, before I close out for the day, I do a quick sweep of my two or three most recent posts. Because let’s be honest, our notifications are a mix of people playing Zip and reminders that other people posted. Comments on our posts get lost in the shuffle.
So, if anything new comes in that I haven't responded to yet, I take care of it then.
I’ve had plenty of off-LinkedIn conversations, podcast interviews, and opportunities with people I’ve met in the comments section of my posts and theirs.
Right now, I want you to get a jump start.
Look at your last three posts.
If there are comments sitting there without a response, fix that.

PS My episode on the Plugged In podcast went live last week! I had a great conversation with Barry Weston. I talked about how my mornings are for deep creative work, how I balance structure and spontaneity and a lot more. Watch here.
