Hey, folks! Did you drop this?
In unison, our heads popped up out of our phones and over the tops of the seats.
Our eyes were fixed on the flight attendant.
There was nothing in her hand.
“Great! Now that I have your attention…”
We laughed, and she started her safety spiel.
For the first time (ever?) I listened to the instructions.
That’s what you want to do with your LinkedIn posts.
You want to say something in the first two lines of your post that grabs people’s attention and keeps it.
- Ask a question. (Do you ever wonder when you lost it?)
- Include a quote. (“For real life?!”)
- Share a statistic or interesting anecdote. (Shake Shack started as a hot dog cart in a Madison Square Park art installation.)
- Pique curiosity. (Before sending a marketing email, send a test, and...)
- Start with a bold statement (I’m a Caitlin Clark fan, but she’s not going to save a team.)
For the flight attendant, she could have gotten us with IRL clickbait, but she kept her end of the bargain to entertain while educating us.
Remember, your bait will eventually meet its fate.
Make sure it ends well by delivering.
