šŸ“ Blues Traveler

From radio to reflection.

My daughter gets on music kicks.

For a few months it was the Frozen soundtrack. Another time it was the Sandlot soundtrack. More recently, sheā€™s obsessed with the Descendants.

I decided to break up the monotony of listening to the same songs over and over again and turned the radio on in the car.

After a few moments of protest, I was able to actually hear the song on the radio.

It was ā€œHookā€ by Blues Traveler. I heard the lines:

ā

Because the Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The Hook brings you back

Of course, being the marketing nerd I am, I thought about the hooks of your LinkedIn posts and how they bring people back to your content.

Your hooks capture peopleā€™s attention and reels them in to read more.

Without a good hook, people scroll.

If you're struggling to come up with a hook, here are some ideas with examples of hooks Iā€™ve used in my LinkedIn posts:

- Ask a question. (Do you ever wonder when you lost it?)
- Include a quote. (ā€œFor real life?!ā€)
- Share a statistic or interesting anecdote. (Shake Shack started as a hot dog cart in a Madison Square Park art installation)
- Pique curiosity. (Before sending a marketing email, send a test, and....)
- Start with a bold statement (Iā€™m a Caitlin Clark fan, but sheā€™s not going to save a team.)

No matter what you choose, avoid clickbait!!

Make sure your hook aligns with your message.

People see right through it and when they feel like you've wasted their time, their perception of you will forever be tainted.

Put yourself in the shoes of your target audience.

Get creative.
Stir emotion.
Donā€™t overthink it.
Have fun!

PS Hereā€™s the music video for Hook. Enjoy! :)
