šŸ“It's a comment sandwich

A tasty bite of engagement.

261 words ā¬‡ļø

My advice isnā€™t anything revolutionary. Itā€™s pretty basic.

But the basics are important.

Before AND after you post on LinkedIn, comment.

Think of commenting as your warm-up and your cooldown.

When you comment before posting, you:

  • Prime the algorithm to notice your activity.

  • Get your mind in ā€œLinkedIn mode.ā€

  • Encourage reciprocity. What you give, you get in return.

When you comment after posting, you:

  • Keep your post active in the feed.

  • Show LinkedIn you're a genuinely engaged user.

  • Create opportunities for follow-up conversations on your post.

What I do and why

Every weekday morning, I follow a simple LinkedIn routine:

  1. I spend five minutes commenting on others' content BEFORE I post my own

  2. Post my content.

  3. Take another five minutes to continue commenting on other peopleā€™s content.

I think of it like a comment sandwich, and I do it for a few reasons:

  1. If I want people to comment on my posts, I need to put the time and energy into commenting on their content.

  2. I follow super-smart people. Their content gets my creative juices flowing and sparks my own content creation.

  3. Building on the last point, Iā€™ve lost count of how many times Iā€™ve repurposed my comments on other peopleā€™s posts to write my own. Check out my Comment Catalog to collect yours in one organized place.

Your turn

Iā€™m challenging you to follow this routine for a week straight.

I can almost guarantee youā€™ll see an uptick in impressions and engagements.

The strongest LinkedIn profiles are built on consistency in creating and commenting.

Strengthen yours today.
