I’m seeing more personality on LinkedIn these days, and guess what?

I love it.

And, the best part is, I don’t think any less of the people who are being themselves.

It makes me like and trust them even more.

Of course, this got me thinking about casual language on a professional network.

It’s easy to assume it hurts credibility. But the true credibility killer is casual thinking.

That’s when things start to feel off because the idea isn’t strong enough to support the tone.

And when that happens, casual writing feels out of place on the platform.

I’m not saying you should edit out your personality. I’m suggesting you build out your ideas with guradrails.

The CRM that saves teams hours every week

It's not about working harder — it's about having a CRM that actually thinks ahead. HubSpot Smart CRM learns how your team operates and adapts to make everyone more effective. Streamline day to day tasks and track the activity that actually matters to your business. The result? Your team gets back hours every week to spend on growth instead of admin work. Start free. See the difference.

Here's how to do it:

Anchor the post in a clear point, not a topic.

Before you write, name the one thing you’re actually saying about that topic. Personality works when it’s attached to something specific.

Let personality shine in the delivery, not the logic.

Layer your humor, warmth, or casual phrasing on top of the idea. If the logic of the post only works because it sounds good, it’s not ready yet.

Make the message strong enough to stand on its own.

If you stripped out the jokes and emojis, would the idea still hold up? If the answer is no, the thinking needs another pass.

When your thinking is solid, personality doesn’t undermine credibility. It reinforces it.

PS If you find yourself staring at your posts, wondering "Is this done or should I keep editing?" you’ll love my Finish-the-Post Checklist. It gives you six quick checks so you can stop second-guessing and just publish. It's $5.
