🍴I Wish I Thought of That Vol. 5

Creativity and an important message ROLLed into one.

What do you think when you read this?

“Recent studies estimate that fish off the West Coast ingest over 12,000 tons of plastic a year.”

I bet you’re a little grossed out and appalled.

But, I also bet you’d keep going about your business.

That message alone doesn’t quick do it.

But, when you pair that stat with the visual like the one below, you make magic.

This ad from the the Surfrider Foundation is a walk-off, game-winning, grand-slam in game seven of the World Series.

It’s so. freaking. good.

Here’s why I think so:

I love the hierarchy of the content.

It starts with an attention-grabbing image. “Ou, sushi! Ew…sushi…”

That visual is then followed up by the punchline, “What goes into the ocean goes in you.” in a bold font that stands out.

That’s great. But, what does it really mean?

The ads then rounded out and supported by facts in a smaller font so the attention stays on the image and the headline.

All three of these components come together to deliver an ad that actually says something.

It puts pictures to words and stories to facts.

It makes you actually think about what they’re saying.

It’s powerfully poignant and that’s why it’s this week’s I Wish I Thought of That feature!

What do you think of this one? I’d love to know why you like or don’t!
