Iā€™ll admit it; I didnā€™t see anything great this week.

Surprisingly, the Jaguar campaign wasnā€™t a front-runner šŸ¤£

So, I went back to the archives and rediscovered Appleā€™s Iconic ā€œGet a Macā€ campaigns from 2006 - 2009.

Hereā€™s a refresher:

So, why are these 18-year+ old commercials this weekā€™s I Wish I Thought of That Thursday feature?

Here are a few reasons why:

Humor hits. These ads used subtle humor and relatability to draw people in. Using people rather than products captured our attention and got us talking. And look, here we are almost 20 years later still talking about these ads!

Improved the brandā€™s perception. At the time, Apple was in a sales slump, and these campaigns made the brand feel more user-friendly and approachable. Prior to, people saw the Mac as a more niche product. These ads showcased its versatility and opened peopleā€™s eyes to the fact that a Mac was a great everyday computer option.

Creative comparisons. Things can go south quickly when outwardly calling out your competitors. Apple danced around this topic like a professional ballet dancer in The Nutcracker. The execution was flawless. It was a way for them to showcase that their computer was better than the ā€œothersā€ on the market without explicitly saying their name. You just knew who they were talking about.

Simple messaging and delivery. There were no bells and whistles. Just two guys standing in front of a white background, having a conversation that clearly showed the advantages of a Mac over a PC.

Every single reason I loved these ads can still be applied to our marketing campaigns today.

Read through them again and see them through your brandā€™s lens.

How can you apply them?

Thatā€™s all for today! Thanks for reading šŸ˜Ž
