From eye rolls to head nods

Complex is boring.

Sometimes, it makes you want to roll your eyes so hard you could do a somersault.

We don't want that in our writing.

We want people to do that silent nod of approval. You know, the one where you think, "Wow, that's good..."

One way to get that nod is through metaphors.

Quick definition break from Grammarly:

A metaphor is "a figure of speech that compares two different things by stating that one is the other, highlighting similarities for emphasis or symbolism."

Simply put, metaphors are seasoning for your writing. A pinch makes it more flavorful.

The portfolio that's automatically up to date with your work.

  • Authory saves you hours with a portfolio that's always up to date.

  • Get backups of all your articles.

  • Be ready to impress potential clients and employers, anytime.

Let's say you're writing a LinkedIn post about burnout. You could talk about the feelings of stress and fatigue, or you could say something like:

Burnout feels like your foot's on the gas, but the tank's empty. There's a lot of noise and no movement.

Pretty good. Right?

Metaphors make the complex, click with clarity. They make the abstract feel real.

Your Turn

If you're explaining something in your next post, swap it for a metaphor.

Instead of telling people, show them by explaining what it feels like.

Remember: We're aiming for nods, not eye rolls.
