🍴Marc Randolph's decision
It's the opposite of "But, we've always done it that way."
But, we’ve always done it that way.
If you tensed up reading that, I get it.
That’s a stop-in-your-tracks, close-up shop statement.
Clinging to old, outdated ideas is like taking the wheels off your car.
You have the means to get there, but you won’t get anywhere.
Making changes in your career or business is scary.
I actually just made one…more on that later!
Last year, I read Marc Randolph’s book, “That Will Never Work”
If you don’t know who he is, he’s the co-founder of Netflix.
Early on, he had a decision to make.
Either continue selling DVDs (the main source of revenue at the time) or shift gears and focus on building their rental business.
Marc and his team had to exchange their “But, we’ve always done it that way” mentality for the unknown.
That’s exactly what they did, and in these stories, you expect instant success — a decision was made, and good things immediately followed.
But that wasn’t the case for Netflix.
It took some time for that decision to catch fire and turn into the company we know today.
There’s no guarantee your choices will pay off.
However, if you don’t take risks, it’s guaranteed you won’t go far.
Be open to change. Understand it’s constant. Adapt to it, don’t fight it. Keep going and growing.
