Have you ever started a book and realized you didn’t like it?

But, instead of stopping it and starting another, you keep reading.

Every chapter is a slog.

And when you finally finish, you essentially drop-kick it out of your view so you never have to see or think about it again.

Well, if Tim Ferriss had his say on the matter, he’d tell us to stop reading that book.

That’s the premise of the art of non-finishing.

Ferriss believes we should strategically stop and not complete certain tasks, projects, or commitments if they no longer serve our goal or interest.

Non-finishing makes room for new opportunities and things that truly matter to you.

Here are some tips to help you appropriately apply this concept in your life:

  • Priority level - Put your energy into things that make waves and let go of tasks that barely make a ripple.

  • Input & output - Does your effort support your desired outcome? If it doesn’t, that’s a sign to move on.

  • Let it go - “I’ve already invested this much time/energy/resources, I might as well finish it.” Ferriss would tell you to drop that mentality and focus on the future. If you keep down this path, what are the future benefits? If they’re good, keep going. If they’re not, let it go.

This concept is all about intentionality and making the most of your time and energy.

What do you think? Is it something you’ll adopt in some way, shape, or form?

That’s all for today!
