Write for your audience.

When creating content online, write with your audience in mind.

Your audience is your compass.

I guarantee youā€™ve read some rendition of this advice on your newsfeed today.

Itā€™s good advice, but itā€™s like when your mom told you to clean your room.

You know you need to, but youā€™d rather not and end up paying the consequences ā€” grounded from the computer for a week. Did I just date myself?

So, how do you actually write content for your audience?

You know, the type of content that makes them thumb their screens, lean in, and nod their heads because - you get what theyā€™re going through.

Three letters:

P.A.S.
Problem. Agitation. Solution.

Hereā€™s the breakdown:

  • Problem - Identify ONE pain point your audience experiences. This gets their attention because itā€™s relatable.

  • Agitation - Dig deeper with details. Highlight the negative consequences of the problem. This taps into the readerā€™s emotional state so they can feel the pain.

  • Solution - Provide relief and a clear way for the reader to move forward. This is where you introduce your product/service.

One of my favorite follows, Shaan Puri, is the brain behind the Milk Road.

He started it, then sold it for šŸ’°šŸ’°šŸ’°

Itā€™s a great example of P.A.S.:

  • Problem - Puri realized crypto news was boring with a capital ā€œBā€.

  • Agitation - People wanted to learn about it but didnā€™t have time to keep up with all the Web3 news.

  • Solution - Milk Road explained crypto news like a ā€œsmart, funny friend.ā€ They made it easy for people to digest the latest news. Itā€™s a daily newsletter that talks only about what matters in crypto.

Letā€™s try it ourselves. Here's a template you can follow:

Problem 

ā€œAre you tired of (specific situation) that (negative result)?ā€

"Are you tired of watching your peers build their personal brands on LinkedIn while your profile collects dust?"

Agitation

"Every time you (current situation), you end up (immediate consequence). Meanwhile, (what you're missing out on)..."

"Every time you open the app, you end up feeling so frustrated you could launch your phone across the room. Meanwhile, your peers are getting the reach that leads to new opportunities."

Solution

ā€œThatā€™s why I (add your solution). It (reiterate the problem youā€™re solving)ā€¦ā€
