🍴What do you want to be known for?
Some advice from my experience.
355 words ⬇️
I started The Lunch Break🍴as, a daily newsletter.
Like clockwork, at 12 p.m. EST, a new email would land in your inbox.
At first, it felt like it was working. I was in the groove!
Then…I wasn’t.
Daily content creation became a grind.
One day, I’d highlight a creative ad campaign (IWITOT was a hit, btw) and the next, I’d cover a marketing theory.
The content was good but too broad.
After some helpful conversations with my friend Danny Trombley (He’s the founder of Andiamo, check it out!) I decided I needed to narrow my focus.
The Question That Changed Things
What do I want to be known for?
This question got my wheels turning. Looking at the newsletter landscape, I realized that the best operators aren’t generalists but specialists.
They’ve found their sweet spot and don’t stray from it.
Tyler Denk’s (founder of beehiiv) Big Desk Energy newsletter covers start-up insights and stories.
Payton Minzenmayer’s Christian Story Lab is all about writing and storytelling.
Sam Lauron’s Rough Draft consistently covers creating a freelance career from scratch.
Brianne Fleming’s By Popular Demand blends pop culture with actionable tips for creatives.
These creators dialed in on what they want to be known for, and because of that, they’re attracting and building an audience of people who share the same interests.
After this revelation, I realized I needed to narrow my focus too.
As a result, I committed to helping people supersize their personal brands with bite-sized content through LinkedIn.
My content is focused on sharing advice, post prompts, strategies, and writing techniques to help you make a name for yourself.
