🍴Comments are Content

How to turn your LinkedIn comments into posts.

Ever log in to LinkedIn and immediately feel a wave of confusion wash over you?

You know you need to post, but for some reason, the connection from your brain to your fingers isn’t working.

It’s giving Tyra Banks in Life Size:

You’re sitting in front of your screen short-circuiting.

So, you “X” out and move on to something else.

If you’ve been there.

I get it.

I’ve done it too.

But, instead of leaving the platform like the dejected person in a romcom who saw their love interest kissing someone else, be the person who wins hearts by professing their love!!

But, really quickly, LinkedIn’s not a dating app. Don’t make it weird.

Do it by turning your comments into content.

You can do this by first being aware of this approach.

What I mean is when you’re commenting on people’s posts and you like what you’re writing copy & paste it into it’s own document.

I have a running Google Doc of random comments I’ve left on people’s content that I pull from.

You can also keep track of your comments right on your LinkedIn profile, here’s how to access that:

  1. Go to your profile

  2. Scroll down and find your Activity section

  3. In that section you’ll see a Comments tab.

  4. Click it and you’ll see all your comments on not only your posts but other people’s posts.

Find a good one?

GREAT!

Use it. Here are a few ways to turn comments into content:

  • Make some subtle tweaks to your comment and share it as a text-based post (example below).

  • Use the topic of your comment to write a LinkedIn article where you dig deeper.

  • Pull a one-liner from your comment and turn it into a quote graphic. Expand on that one-liner using the rest of your comment in your caption copy.

  • Use the opinion you shared in the comment as a talking point and ask your audience for their feedback.

If you feel comfortable, give the person who spurred on the idea a shout-out in your post!

Here’s an example of how I did it:

My comment on someone else’s post

My post repurposing that comment

As you can see, not much changed from my comment to the content.

I only made a small tweak to the hook of my post (HOOKS ARE IMPORTANT…Read my Blues Traveler email for some quick inspo).

Really, the goal of this email is to show you that you don’t have to come up with some novel concept every time you post.

If you’re spending time commenting (which you should), you’ve already done the heavy lifting.

Use what you have and post what you know.

Give this tip a try and let me know what you think!
